Miranda’s Review
Gunny is the fifth book in the Rebel Wayfarers MC by MariaLisa deMora and can be read as a stand-alone, but because the series is fabulous you should read them all. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the way that deMora not only steps outside of the box, but made her own freaking box is astounding. This book, more than the others, really showcases how she keeps the MC world more realistic than any of the other books in the genre.
I thought that Jase was going to be my favorite, that I couldn’t love any of the Rebels more than him … but Gunny? Everything about Gunny screams ‘love me’.
“I want to keep you safe, keep you from harm. I want to give you everything you want… any desire…”
Sharon was on the run from her abusive ex-husband and she ended up at Slinky’s dancing at the Rebel’s strip club. When her ex came back with a vengeance the life she was trying to carve out for herself was lost to his fury. When Gunny saw the bruises on her face, something sparked inside him and his every cell throbbed with the need to protect her.
“My life … you are my life, Sharon. My obsession, my love. If anything happened to you, I don’t know what I would do.”
God, Gunny, I can’t even form words to express my thoughts and feelings about this character. Suffering the effects of PTSD from a mission gone wrong while deployed in the sandbox, he is a beast of a man keeping everyone at a distance. Except her. The intensity of his feelings for her scream at you from the pages of the book. In Jase you get a feel for what’s happening between them, but reading it from Sharon and Gunny’s POVs? Intense doesn’t really do it justice. The tenderness Gunny shows to her when she’s hurt and the gentle way he cares for her will melt your heart, I know it did mine.
My gorgeous gentle giant.
Something else that shocked me about this book is how erotic the sex scenes are. I mean holy freaking hotness. I guess I was expecting something different because of Sharon’s past, but it’s hotter than the other books by far. Or maybe it’s just because it’s a bit on the kinkier side of things. Definitely makes a smut loving book whore happy.
Gunny has drama, mystery, romance, and so much emotion that you’ll need a box of tissues. There are so many little touches in this book that connect pieces to the puzzle that have been dropped throughout the series. The intricate way that deMora ties her characters together adds a dynamic to the character development that I’ve never seen in another writing style before. I’m constantly impressed by this author and I’m waiting with bated breath to get Mason’s story. Five shining stars for Rebel Wayfarers MC #5 and five drenched panties for Gunny. An absolute must read!
